Are you ready for your association's future?  Is disruption, competition, membership fatigue, technology, relevance on your mind?  As Garth Jordan, CEO of the American Animal Hospital Association says, "A lot has changed over the last 10 to 15 years.  Associations are still among the more risk-averse industries, a luxury we can no longer afford.  Fingertip content, education, and unique digital community experiences are eating away at our primary business model.  Leaders are beginning to realize that tradition offers no safety."

So that's why CSAE has launched our first-ever Future of Associations Symposium.  So you can hear five different components of strategies, processes, recommendations, best practices and content to help you and your organization.  And, we're hosted right here in Denver, so in a half of a day, you and your team can walk away with proven strategies and ideas to implement right away.

Why We Need to Challenge Ourselves to Be Innovative and Inspiring – Tradition Offers No Safety

Why should a veterinary practice join the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA)?  We had a traditional answer: be part of our community, get our magazines, use one or more of a long list of benefits we offer. Frankly, our reason was uninspiring. The simple desire to make AAHA more innovative and helpful to the world was the impetus for developing our new strategic plan via human-centered design (AKA Design Thinking).   The design thinking process helped AAHA improve its value proposition, create a variety of new growth opportunities, improve the membership experience, and integrate staff across the association.  Join us to hear about this journey of continuous improvement with a few Aha! moments along the way.

9 – 9:45 am         Teresa Fraker, Executive Director, Obesity Medicine Association
Why QI is Necessary to Drive Positive Change – For Any Size Association

Ever wondered why associations (and other businesses) tend to make quality improvement (QI) decisions on a “hunch?”  It’s likely that teams attempting to lead change have not been given the tools to employ standardized QI approaches to their most vexing business problems.

Today, more than ever, the role of the association professional in quality improvement efforts has never been more important based on resource limitations, particularly due to the lingering fiscal challenges imposed by the pandemic. This session will serve as a QI primer for association professionals to equip you in contributing to your local QI efforts to drive positive change. Using a structured five-step approach leveraging real-world business scenarios, you will gain useful insights as to how you can incorporate QI expertise into your daily practice(s).

10 – 10:45 am    Don Knox, Executive Chair, Civica Management
The (Mostly) Good News About Online Communities — Don Knox

A thriving online community is your membership organization’s ticket to increased revenues and higher renewal rates. Over time, it will make membership more attractive to your association’s prospects. This session covers the latest research into online communities, and it also looks at for-profit entrants poised to become competitive threats. Most of all, the session offers tips and tricks to boost your community (if you have one) or build and manage it (if you haven’t started yours yet).

11 – 11:45 am  Gina Schreck, Author, Podcaster and Founder, The Village Workplace
Mind Blowing AI Tools to Simplify Your Work…starting TODAY!

The term Artificial Intelligence may cause you to conjure up images of robots and computers taking over the world, or at least our associations. AI has been around for decades and we all use some form of it daily, whether we are asking Alexa how old Jamie Lee Curtis is during the Oscars or asking Siri to get directions to our favorite restaurant. The latest buzz around ChatGPT has everyone talking about AI but most don’t realize how to actually use it in our associations.  You will learn about the latest AI tools for blogging, email, content creation, podcast, educational video recording, and even art creation.  Discover one important thing you can do as soon as you get back to the office to incorporate AI into your association. Bring your laptops and test tools on the spot!

11:45 am – 12:15 pm     Lunch Buffet
Select your lunch items and bring in to the training center

12:15 – 12:55 pm             Mike Hess, Executive Director, Blind Institute of Technology
Why Technology is the Great Equalizer to Create True DEI Solutions

"We as leaders need to recognize if you're feeling uncomfortable with something, lean into it. Lean into that and just realize technology is there to help somebody like me do a great job."  Technology is the great equalizer. Reasonable accommodation has already been created. What we’re facing here is the fact that we’re uncomfortable with the cane. We’re uncomfortable with the wheelchair. We’re uncomfortable with somebody using ASL (American Sign Language). We’re uncomfortable with the prosthetic limb, uncomfortable with the visual.  We can name that. It’s actually loss aversion.

"I’m blind, not dead. I can actually feel when people are a little uncomfortable around the cane. That uncomfortable, squishy feeling; Its loss aversion."  Once we get past that it’s still, “Yeah, but how does a blind person do X, Y, or Z?"  It’s technology, so join us to learn about how we can truly engage people across our community to authentically create accepting environments.  Mike will share research, processes, insight, and humor that will inspire you in a multitude of ways to help your culture be excited and prepared for the future.
